Washington, D.C. — At this year’s Postseason Play Black Sports Business Symposium, held August 6–8 at Howard University, Deonte Holden was honored with the Rising Talent Award, recognizing him as one of the industry’s most promising next-generation leaders under 30.

The award celebrates up-and-coming professionals who have already demonstrated extraordinary qualities in a short period of time. For Holden, founder of Law of Athlete, it was both a moment of gratitude and a call to action.

“You don’t need permission to lead, you just have to have the courage.” Holden said during his acceptance speech.

Holden’s work through Law of Athlete focuses on holistic athlete development — equipping athletes with the mindset and resources to help them reach their full potential. “When your opportunity comes, rise to the occasion,” he told the audience. “But once you rise, don’t rise alone. The real flex is helping others rise with you. One person winning isn’t success. All of us rising? That’s legacy.”

He expressed appreciation to Gregory Gibson Jr. and the Black Sports Business Symposium team for “creating a platform where leaders in sports and entertainment can thrive, share their voices, and inspire the next generation.” Holden also thanked those who nominated him for the award, calling it “something I don’t take lightly.”

The Rising Talent Award is just the latest milestone in Holden’s mission to empower athletes on and off the field, a mission he says is “just getting started.”
